化屋村原名“化屋基”，意为“悬崖下的村寨”，曾是一个被险峻山崖隔绝的偏远贫困山村。党的十八大以来，在精准脱贫政策推动下，化屋村迎来跨越式发展，2019年底贫困人口清零，苗寨旧貌换新颜。
